GeorgeTheodosiadisFrontIntroduction

George Theodosiadis (Giorgos Theodossiadis) was born in Athens on the 28th of November 1940. He studied music and piano at the National Conservatory of Greece. He started his career in 1960 as a disk-jockey at the Greek National Radio playing rare jazz recordings. Things really took off in 1963 when he began to play jazz music with an ensemble for radio broadcasts. The group had a regular show of 30 minutes on the KRSEDE (Central Radio Station of The Armed Forces of Greece) every Sunday-evening at 22:30 hrs. Vangelis was also part of this ensemble, playing the vibraphone, among others with his friends from “The Forminx” Titos Kalliris (guitar) and Kostas Skokos (percussion). A compilation with recordings of this ensemble was issued on CD in 1998.

One day in 1964, the orchestra was invited to play at the ERA studio on public radio in celebration of the anniversary of the “Mesimvrini” newspaper. Also present was Nikos Mastorakis, a journalist and radio producer and a good friend of Theodosiadis, who introduced Vangelis to Mastorakis. A recording of this radio broadcast still exists, and Vangelis can be heard playing the vibraphone on 'L’Ecole Est Finie'.

Later Theodosiadis would make his name as a film composer, creating the music for more than 80 films and 120 plays and musicals. In 1963 he composed the music for a film called “Jealousy”, his first soundtrack which unveiled his jazz influences. In 1965 Theodisadis composed the music for the Greek movie “Man For All The Doings”, and Vangelis is credited for ‘helping out’ on the special effects of one track, "Espial Corridor".

George Theodosiadis passed away in 2006 in Athens.
