MariaPhotoIntroduction

Maria (full name Maria Typologou) is one of the female singers that started her career in Greece in the mid-1960s, at a time when pop music was emerging and developing rapidly. In 1966, at the age of 16, she made her debut at a big concert, singing with the group “The Olympians” at the 'Avlaia' theater of Thessaloniki. In 1967 she recorded two songs written and performed by Vangelis: 'Caro Professore' and 'Il Mondo Lo Sa', which were both released on a 7” single.

During the early 1970s Maria went to the USA and started a new career as Maria Romanou, after which she returned to Greece. Back in Greece she kept singing, but also turned to acting in feature films and theatre plays.
