ChanelNo5ShareThe FantasyIntroduction

Throughout his career Vangelis’ music has been used for dozens of television commercials worldwide. For several commercials Vangelis composed original music, but for his television ad “Share The Fantasy” for Chanel No. 5 perfume director Ridley Scott used a re-edited version of ‘The Little Fete’ from Vangelis’ album “China” (1979).

The 30-second commercial shows a topless woman relaxing on the side of a swimming pool, while an airplane passes over in the sky. A female voice says: “I am made of blue sky and golden light, and I will feel this way forever”. Then a man dives in the pool and swims towards her, but as he walks out of the pool his image dissapears. The ad ends with a male voice stating "Share The Fantasy. Chanel No.5”. The French version of the commercial titled "Invitation Au Rêve" is 50 seconds in length and shows more images to a longer edit of ‘The Little Fete’ by Vangelis.

The commercial first ran in 1979 and was quite a success for Chanel, as in some countries it ran on television throughout the 1980s. Director Ridley Scott made fame that same year with his cinematic feature film “Alien”, and later worked again with Vangelis on his films “Blade Runner” (1982) and “1492 Conquest Of Paradise” (1992).
