DiscoramaStill02Introduction

“Discorama” was a French television series from 1959 to 1975 on RTF television (later O.R.T.F.), created and presented by Denise Glaser. The title of the show was proposed by Frédéric Rossif, reflecting the aim of the show to bring the latest news about music, records, theatre and cinema. Throughout the years “Discorama” became very popular and featured many famous artists such as Edith Piaf, Gilbert Bécaud, Barbara, Léo Ferré, Serge Gainsbourg, Jacques Brel, Michel Polnareff, Georges Moustaki, and... Vangelis.

In the episode screened on the 4th of June 1972 Vangelis is interviewed by Denise Glaser, with his instruments set up in the studio. The show starts with a short introduction by Frédéric Rossif, followed by Vangelis playing an improvisation of the song “J’ai Du Bon Tabac”, a classic song from the 18th century which is used as the title theme of the show. During the interview Vangelis talks about his latest album “666” with Aphrodite’s Child, his improvisation in Rossif’s documentary “Georges Mathieu Ou La Fureur d’Être” and plays several improvisations, including songs by Aphrodite’s Child i.e. “Rain And Tears”, “End Of The World”, “I Want To Live” and “It’s Five O’Clock”.

Three years before, on the 22nd of June 1969, Vangelis was also a guest of “Discorama” for an interview with Aphrodite’s Child, together with Demis Roussos and Lucas Sideras.
