GeorgiaZoiIntroduction

Georgia Zoi is a Greek actrice and singer, who, next to graduation at the School of Architecture of the National Technical University of Athens also attended the Drama School of the National Theatre. Apart from a career in architecture, Georgia acted in many theatrical productions, films and television series in Greece and internationally.

As a singer Georgia Zoi performed the traditional Greek folk song ‘Gianni Mou To Mantilli Sou’ (translated as ‘My John Your Handkerchief’) with Vangelis in the ERA studio of Athens during the summer of 1979. The song is a traditional song from Epirus, which is often assiociated with the exiles, the numerous immigrants that left Greece during the 1950s and 1960s looking for a better life abroad. Apparently Zoi and Vangelis discussed the idea to record an entire album with songs from Epirus, but this idea never materialised.

Even though the performance of Georgia Zoi with Vangelis was recorded in 1979, a recording of this performance only appeared online in May 2022, shortly after the passing of Vangelis.
