Introduction
Rick van der Linden (1946-2006) was a Dutch composer and keyboard player, who is best known as the keyboard player of the symphonic rockband “Ekseption” during the 1960s and 1970s.
Between 1974 and 1978 van der Linden was not part of Ekseption, but had formed his own group “Trace”, while at the same time working on several solo albums and contributing to other artist’s projects. During some time in 1976 it seems Rick van der Linden and Vangelis worked together on a project titled “Triofonie”. The cooperation is mentioned in the liner notes of Rick’s album “Rainbow” (1997), as well as on the official Ekseption-website.
Unfortunately not much is known about “Triofonie”, but it is possible that Rick van der Linden and Vangelis recorded something together in 1976 in Vangelis’ Nemo Studios in London, while they were preparing for a concert performance. There is a press article that claims that Vangelis asked Rick to play with him at a concert, but that the performance was ultimately cancelled. This could refer to the concert to promote Vangelis latest album “Albedo 0.39”, that was planned for April 1977, but which never took place. Either way, the music of "Triofonie" was never released, and remains a mystery until this day. If you have more information about "Triofonie" please write to the email address below.
