LArbreDeVieStill02Introduction

“L’Arbre De Vie” is an episode in the French television series “L’Invité de FR3” from 1980. This episode, appropriately subtitled “Vangelis, De Soleil Et D’Eau”, is dedicated to Vangelis and shows him inside a television studio with a setup of musical instruments. The television special is a collage of clips from Frédéric Rossif’s wildlife films such as “L’Apocalypse Des Animaux” (1973), “La Fête Sauvage” (1976) and “L’Opéra Sauvage” (1976), interviews with Vangelis and several pieces of music that Vangelis improvises on his setup of keyboards and percussion instruments.

“L’Arbre De Vie” was recorded inside a television studio in London, probably at the end of 1980 as it refers to Vangelis album “See You Later” which was released in November of that year. The almost one hour TV special was broadcast on French TV channel FR3 on the 21st of December 1980. The idea to create a television special about Vangelis was proposed by Frédéric Rossif, who had been working with Vangelis for many years on his wildlife and art documentaries. Rossif was truly impressed with Vangelis’ skills, having been quoted saying: "How can we not be convinced that Vangelis is one of the very best musicians of these times?"...
