“The Electric Theatre Show” was a documentary television series by the Scottish Grampian Television featuring cinema news, reviews and interviews with the people behind the cameras. The series was broadcast on ITV in the 1970s and 1980s, and in August 1984 the show dedicated two special episodes to Vangelis, for which a crew visited Vangelis’ Nemo Studios in London and interviewed Vangelis and several guests. The two parts, each 24 minutes in length, were broadcast as “Vangelis, His Music” and “Vangelis, The Man And His Music”. Both parts have sections where Vangelis is improvising music on his keyboards.
“Vangelis, His Music” gives an overview of Vangelis’ career through a selection of clips from his music for films such as “Chariots Of Fire” (1981), “L’Apocalypse Des Animaux” (1973), “L’Opéra Sauvage” (1976), Missing (1981), “Blade Runner” (1982) and “La Fête Sauvage” (1976), mixed with interviews with Frédéric Rossif, David Puttnam, Hugh Hudson, Wayne Eagling, Lesley Collier and Tommy Vance.
“Vangelis, The Man And His Music” presents an interview with Vangelis in Nemo Studios, where he showcases his talent by improvising different musical styles on his keyboards. In the final part of this interview Vangelis states: ‘Oh yes, when I am alone I play, or sometimes among friends and I feel like playing and then we enjoy all together. Because again that is genuine, that is something that happens, it is not planned or doesn’t have any purpose but to please everybody and myself. Very few times I try to remember something, I say 'Oh, I should remember that' because it was quite nice, a line or whatever. But most of the times, no. That’s actually the beauty of it, it just goes with the wind, never comes back, or maybe somewhere, maybe it is not lost, who knows?’.
