Vicky Leandros (born as Vasiliki Papathanassiou on the 23rd of August 1952) is a famous Greek singer, best known for winning the Eurovision song contest in 1972 with her song ‘Après Toi’. Vicky was born on the Greek island Corfu and moved to West-Germany with her parents in 1958. Her father is Leo Leandros (born as Leandros Papathanasiou), a known singer/songwriter who not only wrote songs for his daughter but also for Julio Iglesias, Demis Roussos and Nana Mouskouri among others.
Vicky started her singing career in 1965 with the release of her debut single ‘Messer, Gabel, Schere, Licht’, an instant hit in Germany, with her first album following in 1966. In 1967 she participated for the first time at the Eurovision song contest representing Luxembourg with the song ‘L’Amour Est Bleu’, and although the song did not win it became a big hit in Europe. When Vicky Leandros tried again in 1972, this time her song ‘Après Toi’ did win the Eurovision song contest and became a huge international hit. More hits and albums followed, selling millions of copies, making her one of the most successful female singers in Germany and Greece, and a popular singer the rest of Europe and Japan.
In 1983 Vangelis contributed a song to Vicky's album “Vicky”, titled 'Adler Und Taube'. This song, originally recorded with German lyrics would also be released with French lyrics as 'La Colombe Et L’Aigle' in 1985. Although several 7” singles were released off this album, none did include the song composed by Vangelis. Both songs were later also included on compilation CD’s. Note that although Vangelis and Vicky share the same family name, they are not related.
Throughout 2025 and 2026 Vicky Leandros is performing a farewell-tour on stages in Germany.
