“Vangelis Themes, A Profile” is a television interview with Vangelis produced by the Polydor record company on occasion of the release of the “Themes” (1989) compilation album. The interview was recorded in a suite of the Hotel De La Ville in Rome on the 17th of June 1989, the day that Vangelis gave a concert at the thermae of Caracalla in Rome (Italy). A 26-minute edit of the interview was broadcast on television and includes unique footage of the location and preparations of the concert, and even closes off with a short clip of Vangelis playing at the Caracalla concert.
In the interview Vangelis talks about fame, synthesizers, Frédéric Rossif, Jon Anderson, live concerts, Chariots Of Fire and inspiration, mixed with video images from the Caracalla concert location, as well as clips from The Electric Theatre Show (1984), L’Opéra Sauvage (1976), La Fête Sauvage (1976), Chariots Of Fire (1981) and Antarctica (1983).
At the end of the interview Vangelis concludes: 'Trying to create a successful album is a failure. Trying to be true to yourself is a success’.
