“Compratore d‘Anime” is a television commercial by film director Roman Polański for the Italian Vanity Fair, a popular fashion, entertainment and news magazine. The 30-second video starring Polański’s wife Emmanuelle Seigner includes original music by Vangelis. The short video is a suspense thriller showing a woman being followed and who ultimately defends herself with a copy of the Vanity Fair magazine...
The commercial was filmed in Milan in Italy, and as Vangelis was staying in the Hotel De La Ville in Rome at the time, Polański asked his friend to provide some music. The video was released on a promotional VHS video in Italy, where the commercial is preceded by a 3 minute introduction showing some footage of the making of the video. In 1993 the commercial was also released on a DVD in Japan titled “Kings Of Ads 002”, which happens to include several other Vangelis-scored commercials, such as Hugh Hudson’s “Handbuilt By Robots” (1979) and “Concerto” (1988).
Two years later Vangelis would work again with Roman Polański and Emmanuelle Seigner on the film “Bitter Moon” (1992).
